What is Quality First Teaching (QFT)?
At Easebourne, Quality First Teaching (QFT) is our school's commitment to providing the best possible education for every child in every classroom, every day. It's a style of teaching that focuses on high quality, inclusive learning for all pupils.
QFT is the foundation of your child's success, ensuring they receive engaging and high-quality experiences that build strong skills and a genuine love for learning.
How do we deliver Quality First Teaching?
Our approach is guided by the principles of QFT, which are at the heart of our teaching and learning. Here are some of the key elements you will see in your child's classroom:
-
High Expectations: We believe that all children can succeed and we maintain the highest possible expectations for your child and their classmates.
-
Clear Learning Objectives: Every lesson has a clear purpose, so children know exactly what they are aiming to achieve.
-
Modelling: Teachers demonstrate new skills or tasks clearly, often using the 'I do, we do, you do' approach, to show children how to do something before they try it themselves.
-
Adaptation and Differentiation: Lessons are carefully planned and adapted to meet the individual needs of every child, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN). This might involve:
-
Providing extra resources.
-
Offering different ways for children to present their work.
-
Breaking down learning into small, manageable steps (sometimes called 'chunking').
-
-
Questioning and Feedback: Teachers use effective questioning to check understanding, encourage critical thinking, and give children ongoing feedback to help them improve.
-
Scaffolding: We use temporary support, like sentence starters or visual prompts, to help children access challenging work and gradually become more independent in their learning.
-
Retrieval and Sequencing: Learning is carefully sequenced and we regularly encourage your child to revisit and retrieve prior knowledge to help build long-term memory.
-
Vocabulary: Key words and technical vocabulary are explicitly taught to ensure children can understand and talk about what they are learning.
By focusing on these strategies, QFT ensures that teaching is personalised and all children are fully supported and challenged to make excellent progress.
